Coronavirus Outbreak Showing Where Things Actually Come From

With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) now running rampant in China and other parts of the world, we are now seeing the shameful dependence we actually have on imported goods from that country. Companies have been quietly importing all of their goods from China in staggering amounts. Even Coca-Cola finally admitted that their artificial sweetener used in Diet Coke is a Chinese imported product. Most people pretty much knew about all the containers pouring in daily from overseas, but they simply chose to look the other way.

The Metal Cast Sign Co. is proud to say that we only use bronze and aluminum that is sourced in the USA. Having said that – since other US manufacturers were dependent on imported metals, they will now be turning to US sources to buy their raw materials. In the world of supply and demand, that will create shortages and, at the very least, drive up domestic prices.

Our intent is to always have bronze and aluminum on hand ready for the next pour to make your signs. We will also do our best to hold prices in line to give you the greatest value in our American Made products. Thank you again for being our customer. We value your patronage to our small business!

Locks are for keeping out the honest people

A wise gentlemen once told me this phrase: “Locks are for keeping out the honest people. Nothing will keep out the dishonest and the thieves.”  It was one of those points to ponder and after thinking about it for a moment, I knew exactly what he was saying.

Luckily, most people in the world are honest and will respect a locked door or a sign that says they should not enter.  A sign that says ‘Employees Only’ or ‘Private’ is enough to indicate that they should not enter.  These types of signs are even expected in certain locations in a business.  No one wants to be embarrassed by walking into a room that they should not be in.

Make sure to mark the areas of your business where the public is not welcome.  Of course, do it in style with one of our aluminum or bronze signs that add a touch of class while getting your point across.

New PUSH / PULL Bronze Doors Sign are Big Hit

When I sat down to design our PUSH and PULL bronze door signs, I had a particular set of doors in mind – Beeker’s General Store in Pemberville, Ohio – one of Ohio’s oldest general stores.  I wanted the design of the signs to be something that would fit right in and look like they were as old as the doors themselves.  Brian, the head man in our foundry, suggested wire brushing the raised surfaces instead of the normal ‘grinding.’  This would allow the slight imperfections from the casting process to show through and give the sign an aged look.  This was a fantastic idea and the test run on the first samples turned out beautifully.

The ornate decorations cast into the top and bottom surface of the sign are very reminiscent of late 19th century castings you find elsewhere.  The black oxide coating in the background really makes the decorations pop!  Each sign is lacquer coated to protect the surface because I’m sure that as soon as these are on your door everyone will want to feel them.

Since this sign would be located in a place where hands would be touching it regularly, it was also important to not have any sharp edges.  The screw holes are ‘countersunk’ and we supply a flathead screw so the screwhead does not protrude above the surface of the sign.  Initial response to the signs has been fantastic and we are very busy casting more!

A Teacher’s Gift of a Solid Bronze Sign

 

I decided to create a sign for my daughter for Christmas… actually it was a late birthday gift that I gave her at our family Christmas get-together.  She has worked very hard the last several years getting her teaching degree – then getting her Masters in Special Education.  Yes, I am a proud Papa.

It was such a treat to see her open the package and watch her eyes light up at this solid piece of permanence – a sign declaring her a teacher!  She felt the weight of it in her hand and carefully turned it over – all the while feeling the metal in her hands.  She ran her fingers across the raised apple and lettering.  Needless to say, my daughter was touched with my gift to her of a cast bronze Teacher sign.

Breweries & Wineries – Here’s Your Sign

tasting room pointing lt signOne of our latest sign designs is an ideal addition for breweries, wineries and distilleries.  Sand cast in solid bronze, black oxide coated and hand ground for a smooth brushed satin finish.  Mounting holes are drilled.  Finally, a satin lacquer coating protects the sign but allows you to still touch and feel the bronze.  This is all hand work done one sign at a time.

The world is full of signs – road signs, billboards, business signs, political yard signs, signs in a department store. Most of these are generic ‘provide the info you need and move on’ signs and that is fine for most situations. For high end, upscale situations, a better sign is needed. One that will take you back to a day when detail mattered. A sign that exudes finesse and class. Our metal cast signs fill that void.

Our signs are professionally designed with emphasis on font selection, readability, and classic look and feel.  Sign mounting is an important part of this process.  Selection of mounting hardware; flathead or round head, bronze or zinc coated screws is taken into consideration.  From final design, molds are made and samples are cast to ensure all details are correct.

Our traditionally sand cast signs are Made in the USA in a small village foundry with a serious dedication to detail. During the finishing process, each sign is handled multiple times by foundry artisans ensuring a product that you will be proud to display.
